Ash - Director Of Rock Shows And Original Band Program

What's your musical story? I started playing piano at a very young age, then moved to drums which lead to playing in punk bands in my teens. I thought I'd try my hat at singing and never looked back.

I played through the 90's in my band Caligula who enjoyed high rotation on the radio and extensive touring and were nominated for an aria award. After we split up I continued to sing, write, record and tour with a bunch of indie bands.

In 2016 Caligula reformed and are back touring to this day as well as my other band Panic Syndrome.

Favourite instrument to play? I would have to say that singing has definitely become my favourite thing to do. You can do it anywhere, almost any time and you always have your instrument with you.

What's your musical career highlight?? This probably changes from year to year as I'm still touring quite frequently. I would have to say that playing a show recently and getting my son up on stage with me was one of the most special moments in my life so far.

What musicians inspired you? To this day Robert Smith of The Cure has been a huge inspiration in so many ways though I'm inspired every day by the musicians I'm around.

I think you can find influence in all ages, levels of playing and attitude than can often change the way you think, play and write.

Your dream guitar? I bought my dream guitar 20 years ago. It's a white Fender Jaguar. I have quite a few in my collection but this one has the most sentimental value.

What was your first guitar and song you learn't to play? My first guitar was a Sammick Strat copy. I learnt Violent Femme's Blister In The Sun.
- I still can't play it that well.
