Angus - Manager

What's your musical story?
Started playing guitar when I was 11. Over the years I have taught guitar, played in original and covers bands and written / recorded my own compositions. Before Big Music I worked for Fender and I'm still a massive fan of Fender guitars and electric guitars generally.

Performing "The Dark Side of the Moon" album in it's entirety on Neds Beach, Lord Howe Island in 2017.

Your dream guitar?
A Fender Stratocaster, built to my requirements and specifications by the Fender Custom Shop - luckily this is one of the guitars I currently play.

What was your first guitar and song you learn't to play?
I had a Daion Performer Strat copy in black with white pickguard. The first song I learnt was the old Triple M theme from the 80's.

Greg - Acoustic Specialist

What's your musical story?
I've been fascinated with guitars since working for a world class Guitar Tech / Luthier while studying electronics in my 20’s. I worked as a Communications/IT engineer for many years and have come full circle back to my 'roots' working with guitars at Big Music!

Favourite instrument to play?  Acoustic Guitar

What musicians inspired you?
The Guitar Techs I worked with when I was young & everyone on Countdown!

Your dream guitar?
Fender Custom Tele with a fat neck, rosewood fretboard, ash body, front binding, surf green face, natural back, thin profile humbucking pickups, custom brass / rosewood ply pickguard (that I made myself). But I'm not very fussy!

What was your first guitar and song you learn't to play?
Sakai SG copy. First real song was ""Something"" by George Harrison.

Richard - Director

What's your musical story?
Grew up playing acoustic guitar to Cat Stevens, Neil Young, America and James Taylor. Now I'm playing guitar in an 8 piece band called "Big Secret" with a brass section doing covers of rock, soul and classic hits from the 70's and 80's. We have so much fun!

Favourite instrument to play?

Playing with my band "Big Secret" under the stars with fireworks going off above us on the final night of Lord Howe Island Rockfest 2017.

What was your first guitar and song you learn't to play?
My first guitar was a right-handed Yamaha 3/4 size classical. I taught myself to play upside down as I did not know at the time I suffer from leftism! First song was "Sunshine of Your Love".

Randall - Customer Experience Manager

What's your musical story?
Began playing at 12 and formed my first couple of bands as a teenager, then started doing covers full time. Over 1000 gigs later I'm still playing and loving it. I like to wax philosophical on rigs and gear in my spare time!

Favourite instrument to play?
Electric Guitar

What's your musical career highlight?
Opening for the band Chevelle in Hawaii in 2010. Sold out crowd, sea of people from front to back. Insane.

What musicians inspired you?
James Hetfield

Your dream guitar?
I went from PRS-Style bodies to ESP Horizon Super Strat style... and now I'm back into straight-up Gibson Les Paul Classics. I've played so many different shapes but what I really look for is good body weight balance, great pickups, great setup, and a unique look. I also prefer guitars that are beat up. More marks, more character!

What was your first guitar and song you learn't to play?
Ibanez GIO Strat Style in Metallic Blue Flake. I still have it, though I painted over and disassembled it. I remember "Smells Like Teen Spirit" being the first thing I could actually figure out... that and "Sweet Home Alabama".

Started playing drums about 20 years ago, have been drumming in bands for years and played some pretty iconic venues. Since losing my hair I’m proud to be amongst the likes of Joe Satriani, Devin Townsend, Billy Corgan, Peter Garrett and other bald musicians!

What was your first guitar and song you learn't to play?
3/4 size black nylon string, I thought it was the coolest thing despite the fact it had a terrible buzz on the low E string. First song was "Waiting on The World to Change".

Richard - Guitar Specialist

What's your musical story?
I come from a musical family, 6 children who all learnt to play an instrument. My first instrument was the viola and then I "found" the guitar when I was about 11 or 12 and it was all over. Also like all players, music has been a driving force in my life so I've always had a huge interest in guitar players, how they play what they play and how each "signature tone" was developed.

Acoustic and Electric Guitar

What's your musical career highlight?
Playing in my first ever band with my cousins and brother, playing rock 'n' roll and Beatles tunes at Otago University social events in the early 70's in Dunedin NZ.

What musicians inspired you?
Oh so many, Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Beck, early Eric Clapton ("Beano" LP with John Mayal) Robben Ford, Allman Brothers all those guys through to the more modern (for me) players like Satriani, Vai, Lukather, Van Halen, and then there's the jazz and fusion players, like Mike Stern, Al Di Meola and the late Alan Holdsworth.

It would have to be a Fender Custom Shop Stratocaster and I'm still dreaming!
